Horror, if you take a look at what’s came out in the past few years, you might think it’s the amount of sliced body tissue flying around on the screen. Scare to chills has always depended on shock intensity, but what really uprooted us hasn’t changed much: a creepy sound from around the corner, a blurry figure in the distance, a sense of upthroating doom as somebody opens a door. The thing has its place, but only when it’s attached to an idea.
In the past few years, though, there’s been a refreshing yet brilliant use of old-fashioned craft in horror movies, and some are making crazy profits. The so-called Supernatural Entitycan keep you hanging till the last minute. Don’t Breathe adds a fascinating twist to the old things-popping-out-of-the-dark formula(pretty old school but amazingly works every time).
